Using Your Time Wisely: 37 Scriptures

USING YOUR TIME WISELY:
37 Scriptures
(8-2023)  by Carol Scheitlin

Time is a gift to be used wisely!

This is Carol Scheitlin of New Life Expressions. How you spend the minutes and hours that God gives you each day can make a great impact on your life, and as God leads, can also beautifully impact the lives of those around you.

This month I’d like you to be super blessed by these powerful Scriptures relating to the use of time.  I pray we can all be great stewards of the time we are given.

CONSIDER THESE IDEAS FOR EFFECTIVE USE OF YOUR TIME:

  • Setting priorities,
  • eliminating time wasters,
  • laying aside weights,
  • removing hindrances,
  • stop spending time on foolish things and unfruitful talk,
  • removing the energy-drainers,
  • spending more time encouraging others, reaching out,
  • spending more time witnessing to others, and loving others,
  • running the race strong,
  • devoting your time to what GOD instructs you to do can make all the difference in your Godly walk of life!

TAKE THE CHALLENGE:

Pray and simply allow the simple truths from the Word of God to minister to your heart, inspire you where needed, and establish a solid and good and Biblical direction for your daily, weekly, monthly schedules and long-term goals.

MY SUGGESTIONS FOR YOU AS YOU READ THROUGH:

ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION:  Am I spending my time on God’s priorities, or not, and if not, why not?  Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you as you read through these Bible verses.

TAKE NOTES:  You may want to have a pen and paper with you, or write in your prayer journal, or you may want to jot notes on your device - as the Holy Spirit leads and guides you in His perfect and best will for the use of your time.

REVIEW OFTEN:  Save the link to this blog, come back to it as many times as needed, as you consider how to implement some new goals, plan new outreaches, and perhaps set some vital new priorities.  You may also want to set reminders for yourself, if needed, at regular intervals to be sure you are staying on track with any newly implemented goals.

READ YOUR BIBLE DAILY FOR DIRECTION:  The Bible is packed with life-giving words for instruction.  Glean all you can, while you can.  These verses in this blog are just a few of the great treasures and riches available for you in the full Bible – Old and New Testament.  Also, you can pick one of the verses listed, look it up in your Bible and read it in context (read the verses before and after it) to gain deeper insights as needed.

Allow God to do a great work through you, as you learn to USE WHATEVER TIME HE GIVES YOU – your days, months, years ahead - WISELY !

To God be the glory! This is an exciting journey!  Let’s get started...

Setting priorities

James 1:5  “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Colossians 3:1-4  “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

Matthew 6:33  “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Hosea 10:12  “Sow for yourselves righteousness;
Reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the Lord,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20  “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Eliminating time wasters

Proverbs 20:13  “Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;
Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.”

Proverbs 3:7  “Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.”

Philippians 2:3-4  “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Laying aside weights

Matthew 6:19-21  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

Hebrews 12:1-2  “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Matthew 6:34  “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Removing hindrances

Proverbs 4:23-27  “Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.
Put away from you a deceitful mouth,
And put perverse lips far from you.
Let your eyes look straight ahead,
And your eyelids look right before you.
Ponder the path of your feet,
And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left;
Remove your foot from evil.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-5  “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

Colossians 3:8-10  “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,  and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.”

Psalm 31:14-15  “But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in Your hand;
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,
And from those who persecute me.”

Stop spending time on foolish things and unfruitful talk

Ephesians 5:18-21  “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.”

1 Timothy 1:3b-7  “charge some that they teach no other doctrine,  nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,  from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,  desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.”

Ephesians 5:3-4  “But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.”

Removing the energy-drainers

 2 Timothy 1:7  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Matthew 6:25  “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”

Proverbs 23:9  “Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.”

Spending more time encouraging others, reaching out

Colossians 3:12-17  “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.  But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Galatians 5:22-23a  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Colossians 3:18-25a  “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.

 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.  And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Spending more time witnessing to others, and loving others

Colossians 4:5  “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.”

Mark 1:14-15  “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Galatians 6:10  “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

Running the race strong

Psalm 84:5-7  “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
Each one appears before God in Zion.”

Hebrews 10:23-25  “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Acts 1:8  “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Devoting your time to what GOD instructs you to do can make all the difference in your Godly walk of life!

Ephesians 5:15-17  Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”  (esv)

Philippians 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

2 Corinthians 6:2   “For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Romans 13:11  “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”

Psalm 96:2-3,13  “Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.

…For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
He shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.”

Matthew 28:18-20  “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

1 Peter 4:10-11  “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
