"Take a Step Today" for Women:
WALK WORTHY: STRIVING OR ABIDING
(2-2023) by Carol Scheitlin
Are you striving in your own strength to do good things, to live a life worthy of the calling to which you’ve been called? I hope not. Let me explain.
This is Carol Scheitlin of New Life Expressions. I’m asking you today to consider what it actually means to “walk worthy” - not in your own efforts, but in the power of your Redeemer.
You see, the Christian walk is not about our works and STRIVING in our strength to do what is right and good, but it’s all about ABIDING, relying on, and trusting in our Savior Jesus Who already did ALL the good work needed - He gave His life on the cross for us. He paid the penalty for all our sins, past, present and future. He was and is perfectly righteous, and the life He willingly gave for us made the final and perfect atonement, freeing us from the penalty of our sins. He rose from the dead, and He made the way, so that we can be with Him, and with all the saints, for all eternity.
He did the work that we needed, not only for our life now, but to give us a glorious future. We have hope for what’s ahead for us in eternity - things so glorious and so wonderful and beyond all that we can think or imagine!
He is the One Who is worthy of all our praise. And He is the One calling us now to follow Him, to walk in Him, to share the good news of the Gospel, and to share His sacrificial love so we can bless and care for others.
And He gives His Holy Spirit to help us to do this, working in and through us.
What work does the Holy Spirit do in our lives? He fills us (see John 14:16-17), especially helpful in these days of trials and uncertainty. He gives us hope and comfort, and He abides with us.
He gives us gifts so we can bear much fruit to bless and encourage others. (Galatians 5:22-23)
His Holy Spirit guides us into all Truth (read John 16:13). He directs our steps according to the Word of God.
He empowers us (read Acts 1:8). He gives us boldness and grace to move forward in His will and to take action.
In God alone we are fully equipped to do all the good works we’re called to do. And if we are walking worthy in Him, abiding in Him, we will be fruitful in good works, and we will do it in humility and grace.
Are you equipped by Him, and ABIDING IN HIM today?
Are you relying on HIM, or striving to do a great work in your own strength?
Beloved, it is my prayer that you will trust Jesus today, believe that He died for you, that He’s forgiven you, that He rose from the dead and set you free, and He is alive now.
Allow His Holy Spirit to fill you to overflowing.
You no longer need to strive in that area where you have been struggling. Remember the important principle of ABIDING – in HIM – realizing you can’t do it on your own. Trust Him to fill you, free you, equip you and empower you to be a blessing for His glory. This is how you can “walk worthy” in His strength, reflecting His character and His love for others.
God’s Word says: “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may WALK WORTHY of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:9-14)
Be blessed ladies! Walk worthy. Keep abiding in your Beloved Messiah, and be filled to overflowing.
